Mathematics

In Year 6, children will complete an Arithmetic every day. This will build up their stamina and resilience in answering 35 fluency questions in 30 minutes in readiness for their SAT Arithmetic. It will also encourage repetitiveness of the basic calculations methods alongside fractions, percentages and decimals. These will be sent home daily and be part of the homework sent home on a Friday for the children to work on misconceptions.

Class information:

  • Homework - will follow the same format each week and consist of reading, arithmetic, times tables and one optional extra piece. It will be sent home every Friday and there is no expectation for it to be returned.
  • PE - will take place outside on a Friday and all children will need an outdoor PE Kit in school.
  • Water Bottles – please send your child to school with a named water bottle, these can be purchased from the office for £1.50.
  • Healthy Snack – we are encouraging Year 6 children to bring a healthy snack into school due to a longer morning in class with the staggered lunchtimes.
  • Robinwood – we are still awaiting further guidance from the Government as to whether our trip can go ahead as planned in January. Please continue to make regular payments as if we cannot go in January we will hopefully have the option of moving the trip to the Summer Term. The total cost of the trip is £140 and payments should be made via ParentPay.

Reading

In Year 6, children are expected to read at home three times a week – two at a minimum! This will need to be recorded in their Reading Record which will be checked in school on a Monday and a Friday. Reading aloud to an adult is preferred so that unknown vocabulary can be discussed and understanding can be checked.

Reading books and reading records should be brought home and returned daily.
