Welcome to the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association

July 2020

Our logo has been updated with the new school motto, “Reach for the Moon... the Stars... and Beyond!”. It looks great, thank you Maddy!

This time last year, we were busy with our amazing Nields Fest. We are very sad that we can’t run it again this year, however, the weather isn’t as good!

We would like to invite you to hold your own “Nields Fest at Home” instead.

We have designed some festival at home resources for you to use with your children, which will be on the Home Learning tab. We have lots of festival ideas on our Facebook Page (search for Nields PTFA if you’re not already a member) or look on the homelearning tab.

To add to the excitement of our “Nields Fest at Home” event, we have joined a national online Virtual Balloon Race, where you can watch the balloons as they fly! The race started at 9am on Friday 3rd July and will last until 9am on Friday 10th July!

It’s been great to see where our balloons have virtually gone! We have raised over £250, which will go towards improving our outdoor spaces. https://ecoracing.co/user/page/241 For an update on our Nields School balloons, and details of the full race visit the website and log in.

As there are lots of schools involved in this race, the top prizes are amazing!

  1. £500 Cash
  2. Apple iPad
  3. 10 lucky winners of £10 Book Tokens

Thank you to everyone who got involved with our wormery project: “The Tiger worm who came to Nields”, it was great to read everyone’s work.

The recycling fund and our wormery grant from the local councillors is helping to improve the allotment area. We are now working with various parents and grandparents to bring our allotment back into use. If you are able to help out in any way, please let us know.

Thank you to everyone who has already helped us out or has promised help.

  • Before lockdown, Garry Scott helped to clear the old beds and some of the rubbish.
  • A small team of parents then worked to remove this rubbish.
  • Some parents & children also helped to plant a hedge, donated by The Woodland Trust.
  • One of our school grandads has offered to build us a number of raised beds to grow veg in. Thank you Darren.
  • SB Homes have offered to clear the remainder of the allotment area, so that we can start to put raised beds in and make it a useable, low maintenance, teaching space for our children, when they return in the Autumn term.
  • Chris Lunn Landscaping have agreed to help us with some raised beds and a shelter to allow classes to enjoy the allotment area.

Our fundraising scheme with The Co-Op is going really well, so thank you to everyone who has supported this. We are very grateful. We are beginning to look at how we can spend this money on improvements to the Early Years play-area, so hopefully they can have a brand-new play space by the autumn.

If you have ideas for fundraising, fancy joining in the fun or have any comments on any of the above, please speak to Emily in the office or email us on NieldsPTFA@gmx.com.

THANK YOU for visiting this page. Obviously with everyone currently social distancing, we are unable to run our normal programme of exciting events.

We had a great Mothers' Day Gift Stall just before school shut down, which made a brilliant profit of £151.23, so thank you to everyone who supported us in this. Hope all the mums/grandmas liked their gifts and managed a bit of rest before this craziness began!

Plans for social and fundraising events are all on hold, until we can return to school, but rest assured, we have lots of plans waiting, so can look forward to lots of fun when life returns to some normality.

We are currently spending time looking at grants we can apply for and progressing plans for the allotment area. Feel free to contact us with any ideas or grants you spot, our email is NieldsPTFA@gmx.com.

Please check the calendar for forthcoming events or refer to the PTFA Spring newsletter that you should have received.

As I’m sure you’ll have noticed; we have a new name!

The reason for our re-branding, from PSFA, is due to a request from the Charity Commission and following feedback from local businesses.

A competition was held in school at the end of the summer term, whereby the children were asked to design a new logo for our new name and I’m delighted to announce that the chosen winner was Nate from class 5. His design has been adapted to become the new logo for the PTFA.

So just to clarify, our name going forward is Nields PTFA (PARENTS, TEACHERS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION).  We will still continue to organise fabulous fundraising events throughout the year, and as always we would be delighted for new ideas and help.

We would like to say a massive thank you for the fundraising efforts over the last year. Thank you so much to each and every one who donated goods, helped organise and run the events and those who attended them. Lots of fun was had, a huge amount of money was raised, and the children now have the fantastic trim trail to show for everyone’s efforts.

Official letters will be sent out nearer the time and details for all our events will be in the noticeboard and on facebook. Search for NieldsPTFA.

Library news update:

You may remember us telling you about the grant that Yorkshire Water very generously gave Nields PTFA to revamp the library and relocate it to the Portacabin. We have bought some lovely new bookshelves, some new books, added lots of colour and a seating area. We will have a celebration launch in January, when you can see it for yourself.

Back in the summer, Yorkshire Water very generously gave Nields PTFA £5000 to revamp the library. We are currently working on the plans and will keep you updated.
