Focus this year is on provision of an all weather Trim Trail for the children to use. This will be paid for by the PSFA who have been fundraising for over 12 months. They have worked tremendously hard putting together a variety of fund raising events. Also the school has received donations of money too to go towards their efforts. A big thank you to the PSFA for their hard work, dedication and committment.

It is hoped that the Trim Trail will be in place by the end of May 2019.

School Grounds Developments 2016/2017

Well here it is. . .

The story of how the downstairs classrooms and playground have been transformed.

It began with “The rooms downstairs could do with painting.” and “Let’s paint the railings!”

It sounded like a good idea and so I asked Matt Short who is Head of Activities, Communications and Events at the Huddersfield University Students Union if they could help out. Matt and his team of staff last year did the Slaithwaite subway! Yes they could help us, so Wednesday 26th July was pencilled into the diary for the work to be done. Unfortunately the weather was horrendous and so work outside couldn’t be done so they set too and did our now BLUE, GREEN and PINK rooms. They all worked hard from 9.30 till 4.30 stopping for a well earned lunch break midway.

With regard to the outdoors, I took on the role of organizing and supervising all of the work necessary. I was weather watcher, messenger to everyone about what days work would be done in school and whether or not they could help out. Cheryll Cooper put out requests too on the PSFA facebook page.  Did we enjoy it? YES we did, it was fun and rewarding work.

How much has it cost Nields School?

Well, due to the generosity of companies and people alike giving donations of materials and time, all we have spent is £224.

Importantly the number of voluntary hours spent on this project has been 260 ½ up to and including 4th September! Total cost £0.
